Cuba looking to buy dairy cattle

A delegation from Cuba is now visiting farms in Vermont, Maine and Pennsylvania with their shopping list in hand – 500 dairy heifers.

Their goal is two-fold. One, to select heifers that will help improve the genetic composition of herds in Cuba. And two, to increase the number of dairy cattle in the tiny nation so that it might become self-sufficient in milk production.

The Holstein Association in Brattleboro, Vt., lined up the dairies for the Cuban delegation to visit and purchase heifers from.
