The Cooperatives Working Together announced this week that it has accepted three bids for export assistance for cheese. All three bids were from Dairy Farmers of America of Kansas City, Mo.

The bid details are as follows:

·         Export 6 metric tons (13,200 pounds) of Mozzarella cheese to Israel

·         Export 15 metric tons (33,000 pounds) combined of Cheddar, Colby and Monterey Jack cheese to Israel.

·         Export approximately one-half metric ton (1,200 pounds) combined of consumer-packaged cheeses including Cheddar, Swiss and Monterey Jack to Barbados, West Indies.

CWT will pay the export bonus to the bidder, once completion of each cheese shipment is verified.

CWT’s total cheese exports since it began operations two years ago now stands at 4,737 metric tons (or 10.4 million pounds). Previous shipments facilitated by CWT’s export assistance program have gone to Algeria, Barbados, Croatia, Egypt, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Morocco, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia and South Korea.

Through CWT’s Export Assistance program, exports occur as overseas buyers are found for the products, and as CWT’s members bid to be compensated for selling cheese and butter to those importers.
