Cooperatives Working Together accepted several export assistance bids this week for the sale of whole milk powder, butter and cheese. Details of each bid follow:

  • Land O’Lakes, Arden Hills, Minn., for the export of 88,000 pounds (40 metric tons) of whole milk powder to Guatemala
  •  Dairy Farmers of America, Kansas City, Mo., for the export of 41,800 pounds (19 metric tons) of butter to Mexico. 
  • Land O’Lakes, Arden Hills, Minn., for the export of 319,000 pounds (145 metric tons) of Mozzarella cheese to Saudi Arabia

CWT will pay an export bonus to the biddesr, once completion of the each shipment is verified.

This accepted bid increases CWT’s Year To Date export totals as follows: Whole milk powde r4.22 million lbs. (1,920 metric tons); butter 12.96 million lbs. (5,889 metric tons); cheese 8.41 million lbs. (3,821 metric tons); and anhydrous milkfat 2.56 million lbs (1,165 metric tons).

Previous shipments facilitated by CWT’s export assistance program have gone to Algeria, Barbados, Denmark, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, El Salvador, Germany, Guatemala, Honduras, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Mexico, Morocco, the Netherlands, Nicaragua, Oman, Qatar, Panama, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Trinidad, Tunisia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam.

Through CWT’s Export Assistance program, transactions occur as overseas buyers are found for the products, and as CWT’s members bid to be compensated for selling cheese, butter, anhydrous milk fat and whole milk powder to those importers.

Cooperatives Working Together is being funded by dairy cooperatives and individual dairy farmers, who are contributing 10 cents per hundredweight assessment on their milk production through December 2007.  The money raised by CWT’s investment is being apportioned among several supply reduction programs to improve the national all milk price.
