A group of 16 dairy producers filed two anti-trust suits in the U.S. District Court in Nashville, alleging that processors, bottlers and cooperatives in the region have worked together to limit the price paid to dairy producers in the Southeast. Companies named in the suit include: Dean Foods, National Dairy Holdings, Dairy Farmers of America and the Southern Marketing Agency.

According to an article in The Tennesean, in the suit the producers from Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, Virginia and Louisanna allege that the companies have brought in milk from other states to flood the region’s wholesale milk market and therefore keep the prices paid to local dairy farmers low.
