California has been bombarded by rain showers this past week. The Central Valley has been hit hardest. Gov. Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency for Kern and Tulare counties.


Dairy Products Prices Highlights: Butter Advances, Dry Whey Falls Lower
Butter prices received for 25 kilogram and 68 pound boxes meeting United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Grade AA standards averaged $1.65 per pound for the week ending December 18, 2010. The United States (US) price per pound increased 3.5 cents from the previous week.

Natural Gas Outlook: Demand Higher On Cold Weather, Spot Prices Down
With cold temperatures gripping much of the country for the first half of December, the heating season is well underway with large storage withdrawals. Nonetheless, a trend of rising prices since Thanksgiving ended during this report week for most regions of the country. Following two weeks of increases, the price at the Henry Hub declined $0.24 per MMBtu to $4.22 and is now just one cent higher than its price at the beginning of December. During the report week, price changes at specific market locations depended largely on local weather conditions and constraints in transportation into local markets.

BEIJING (AP) — China has made "remarkable progress" in growing sufficient food to feed its people but its official efforts to silence people who alert the public to food safety problems are worrisome, a U.N. official said Thursday.
