Four environmental groups have joined forces to go after Florida dairies that they say are polluting waterways. The groups have singled out four farms and sent them a 60-day notice that alerts them to their intent to sue.

According to Scott Randolph, an attorney with the Legal Environmental Assistance Foundation, one of the groups seeking legal action, the large dairies are operating without permits and when manure is applied on fields it runs into ditches, creeks and waterways. The goal of the suit, explains Randolph, is to force producers to get permits from the state Department of Environmental Protection as required by current environmental regulations.
