A former administrator at Dairylea Cooperative in New York has pleaded guilty to embezzling nearly $600,000.

Cheryl Nelli, of DeWitt, N.Y., formerly served as the cooperative’s producer payments administrator.

The embezzlement was discovered when a farmer noticed an irregularity in his account and notified Dairylea, which conducted an audit, according to an article in The (Syracuse) Post-Standard.

“There was no financial harm to members, and the Cooperative expects to recover the funds,” Karen Cartier, a spokeswoman for the cooperative,” said in a written statement. “Numerous and comprehensive efforts are in place to prevent such incidents from happening in our organization.”
