KMEG 14 reports Wednesday’s early morning fire end with a dairy barn completely destroyed and a family concerned with the fate of their dairy business.
Sherry Pick said her husband woke up Wednesday morning to see the barn in flames. The building is a complete loss with damage estimated at over $100,000. An electrical malfunction is presumed to be the cause of the fire.
"You don't really know what to do, you're at the mercy of your insurance company, you're at the mercy of friends to help you, and you can't rely on them indefinitely," says Pick.
As the barn burned, only one calf was lost, but 5,000 pounds of milk was also ruined. Neighbors have helped the Picks as they deal with the fire, people visited the dairy with trailers to haul surviving cows to a nearby farm.
The Picks hope to build a new dairy barn in the spring.
