A large dairy in Eastern Montana lost 200 cows and several buildings in a fire earlier this week.

When firefighters arrived Monday morning at Bostana Dairy, near Crane, Mont., the blaze had already spread to several buildings. According to the Billings Gazette, investigators say the fire apparently started in a mechanical room then spread to the milking parlor, compressor room, hospital pen and veterinarian building.

Employees and firefighters rescued 1,000 cows from the burning buildings. Those cows were transported to nearby dairies in Savage, Mont. And Parshall, N.D.

Damage to the dairy is estimated at $2.5 to $4 million. To learn more, go to: http://www.billingsgazette.net/articles/2007/08/02/news/state/18-cowfire.txt
