The World Organisation for Animal Health has reported an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Russia. To date, the disease has affected cattle, swine, sheep and goats. Russian veterinary authorities sent an immediate notification to the OIE on Monday.
A total of 112 cattle were found affected, while 2,256 showed signs of susceptibility. In the case of swine, four animals were found affected while 50 were found susceptible to the disease. No animals were destroyed.
According to the report, the outbreak occurred about seven miles from the Chinese border. The source of the outbreak remains inconclusive and is under investigation.
