Dairy producers who want to apply for direct cash payments under the Dairy Market Loss Assistance Program will now have a few more weeks to do so, according to FSA communications specialist Susan Hunter.

The Farm Service Agency extended its deadline until April 30, and those eligible to apply must file an application with their local Farm Service Agency office before that deadline.

Under this DMLA-III sign-up, payments on marketed milk production up to 39,000 hundredweights will be issued to dairy producers who fall in these situations:

  • Producers who received a prior dairy payment based on less than 12 months of production.
  • New producers who began marketing milk in 2000, and are not affiliated with other producers who were eligible for or received payments.
  • Producers that were eligible for prior dairy payments, but did not sign up.

“The conservation compliance provision only applies to new producers under this sign-up, and they must comply with erodible land conservation and wetland conservation provisions,” says Hunter.
