Last week the Federal Trade Commission released a letter stating the dairy industry has agreed to shift its advertising campaign from weight loss to weight maintenance until more research provides more conclusive evidence of the link between dairy and weight loss. The FTC was investigating the weight loss claims at the insistence of the activist group the Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine.

PCRM, which advocates a diet free of all animal products, petitioned the FTC in 2005 to investigate what it called misleading dairy industry ads on weight loss. PCRM called the news a “victory for consumers.”
