Hilmar Cheese is moving forward with its plans to expand its Texas plant. The $100 million endeavor will approximately double the plant’s capacity and enable it to make 640-pound blocks of American-style cheese.

According to the Amarillo Globe-News, the cheese-maker is asking the Dallam County Commissioners Court to endorse the issuance of up to $24.5 million in bonds to finance part of an expansion of its plant outside Dalhart. A public hearing has been slated for 10 a.m. on July 19 in the courtroom of the Dallam County Courthouse to take oral and written comments.

A company spokesperson says the process is similar to what the plant went through for the first phase of construction. The expansion, which will add 50 jobs, is expected to be finished by the end of the year
