A bill that increases the flexibility of the school milk program has passed its first hurdle.
Wednesday night the U.S. House of Representatives unanimously approved The Child Nutrition Improvement and Integrity Act. Under the bill, H.R. 3873, schools will have the flexibility to add flavored and lactose-free varieties of milk to the school lunch line. In addition, the bill also gives schools the authority to offer milk anytime throughout the school day and anywhere on school premises. This would prevent restrictions on milk sales sometimes included in beverage vending contracts with schools.
The bill moves to the Senate next. Be sure to contact your state senators and tell them to support the bill.
