House subcommittee approves funding for Johne's program

A House subcommittee has approved next year's Agriculture Appropriations bill. Included in that spending package is $15.7 million for the newly initiated National Johne's Program.

That level of funding is actually a decrease of $6.3 million from the $22 million appropriated in Fiscal year 2003. USDA officials estimate that Johne's is found in 8 percent of beef herds and 22 percent of dairy herds in the U.S.
