In order to get more producers to submit cattle for BSE testing, the state of Illinois is upping the ante. Last weekend, Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich announced a new program with higher financial incentives — $300 per animal.

Producers must deliver symptomatic animals to one of the state’s animal disease laboratories located in Centralia and Galesburg. They will receive $300 per animal plus be reimbursed for hauling cost.

The state is paying for the program with a $103,000 federal grant.
