According to the Muncie Star Press, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management recently issued a notice of violation and a proposed agreed order to Union-Go Dairy.

The action stems from an alleged manure release into Sparrow Creek on April 3. Apparently, manure was pumped out of the lagoon, and land-applied as fertilizer to a farm field. However, under the field is a 20-inch county drainage tile that runs into Sparrow Creek.

The notice accuses the dairy of violating environmental management laws, water pollution laws and its permit.

State officials say dairy owners have been “responsive and cooperative” and are working to comply with authorities.
