Coolidge Dairy LLC of Coolidge, Kan., has been ordered to pay a $40,000 civil penalty for violations of its permit for agricultural and related waste control, handed down by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

Improper handling, storage and waste disposal were all cited in the administrative order and alledged the violations caused an August 2003 fish kill in the Arkansas river.

The order and penalty are subject to appeal to the department secretary, the state told wastenews.com.
