Earlier this week we reported that the ban on Roundup Ready alfalfa had been lifted. Now 50 U.S. lawmakers want that ruling rescinded.
According to a news report by Reuters, the group of lawmakers is asking Agriculture Secretary Vilsack to ensure Roundup Ready alfalfa is not approved for commercial use.
The lawmakers believe that this biotech alfalfa will contaminate conventional alfalfa fields and spell disaster for the organic dairy industry by contaminating feed fed to organic dairy cows, reports Reuters.
In addition they feel there will be lost sales to export markets that are unfriendly to genetically modified crops.
