Michigan State Veterinarian Steven Halstead has announced that the Michigan Department of Agriculture (MDA) has extended the comment period for the proposed bovine tuberculosis changes that will shrink the Modified Accredited Zone and affect all interstate and intrastate cattle and bison movement through Sept. 8.
The public hearings on proposed changes will be held in Lansing, Atlanta, and Harbor Springs on Sept. 2 and 3.
The bovine TB zonal boundaries were proposed before the Michigan Commission of Agriculture on July 21. The proposed rules have recently been published in the legal section of 16 newspapers statewide, posted on the MDA and Emerging Diseases Web site, and were presented at public meetings in July.
