The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality announced its intention last week to sue a Dover Township dairy after seven manure spills that allegedly occurred in three years. Officials say the number of violations at the 600-cow VanderHoff-Haley Dairy combined with a lack of sufficient progress to improve manure handling led to the suit. Dairy owner Jan VanderHoff says he has not seen the lawsuit, and maintains that he has a good relationship with the DEQ.
