Penn State Dairy Alliance is offering its popular Milking Management and Udder Health training for Spanish-speaking dairy employees at two sites in June. The workshops are part of the “Penn State Dairy Production Skills Training – In Spanish,” program.

The workshops are taught, in Spanish, by bi-lingual instructors using Spanish-language materials. Training times are:

  • June 27 at Glenn Gorrell Dairy in Milan, Pa., 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • June 28 at the NewBoltonCenter, Kennett Square, Pa., 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Topics will include udder anatomy, milk let-down, mastitis prevention, and recognizing milking system malfunctions. The program does not suggest specific milking procedures but emphasizes the importance of consistently following the procedures in place at the employee’s farm. Class size is limited to 20 at each site to ensure one-on-one interaction with instructors so it is important to register early.

Advance registration is required. The registration fee is $25 per person. Mastercard and VISA are accepted. To register by phone, call toll-free: 888-373-7232. Online registration is available at: https://ecommerce.psu.edu/dairyalliance. Owners and managers may accompany an employee at no additional cost. The program is funded in part by a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry.

Dairy Alliance is a Penn State Cooperative Extension initiative.
