Leaving 33 employees without jobs, Dairy Farmers of America has closed its whey processing plant in Fergus Falls, Minn.

Paul Gregory, DFA regional operations manager told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that "The marketplace shifts in the Upper Midwest have been tough on this plant."

DFA had cut cheese-making operations at the plant in March 2001. At that time, the city, Otter Tail Power and Great Plains Natural Gas provided enough incentives that it was worth it to keep the whey processing facility open.
