After heavy rains and spring flooding devastated the area, producers in 13 northwestern Minnesota counties find themselves needing hay and forages to feed their livestock.

The USDA’s Farm Service Agency estimates that 71 percent of the hay crop was lost due to the storms. That puts forage supplies in short supply.

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture and the University of Minnesota extension service have set up a Web site to help producers find the needed hay and forages. The names and phone numbers of producers who are in dire need of hay for livestock have been posted on the site. The Web address is:, Associated Press
