The New Jersey Food Council says it opposes a proposed state milk tax designed to help the state’s dairy farmers. The organization says that milk prices are headed up, and USDA has already provided $290 million in direct assistance for dairy farmers while purchasing $60 million in dairy products to help prices. (These programs are national in scope.)

The proposed New Jersey state milk tax would collect 2 cents per gallon.
