Anderson Erickson, a dairy processor based in Des Moines, Iowa, has launched a new dairy yogurt line that is fortified with soy protein for health-conscious consumers. Each serving contains 6.25 grams of soy.
Miriam Erickson Brown, executive vice president of Anderson Erickson and a breast cancer survivor, shepherded the introduction. “After my own experience with breast cancer, it became a personal goal to develop a product that could contribute to the health of women,” she says. “When my treatment was completed, my doctor suggested I incorporate soy into my diet. However, it was hard to find ways to do that, other than by eating a lot of tofu.”
Due to estrogen-like qualities, soy is often recommended for breast cancer survivors. And, the Food and Drug Administration recommends eating 25 grams of soy as a part of a low-fat diet to reduce the risk of heart disease.
