If you dairy in New York you’ll soon have an inspector from the New York State Department of Labor knocking on your door. That’s because the state labor department plans to visit every dairy in the state to check for compliance with state labor laws.

Inspectors will be evaluating your compliance with minimum wage laws; allowable deductions for housing, and that you have completed a farm-work agreement with each employee. They also will be doing spot checks for the Workers’ Compensation Bureau to make sure you have posted the required information. Any farms out of compliance can be fined up to $1,000 for each violation.

Inspections will start during the last week of May and should all be completed by August. The Division of Labor Standards will conduct the inspections.
