For the first time since foot-and-mouth disease was diagnosed on February 20, no new cases of the disease were confirmed yesterday. The Ministry of Agriculture reported Thursday night that no new cases had been confirmed in England, Scotland and Wales for the day.

The current total is 1,603 cases in Britain with four confirmed cases in Northern Ireland. Nearly 1.3 million cattle and sheep have been killed in an attempt to halt the spread of the highly contagious disease.
