Organic Valley welcomes 600th organic dairy producer

Organized in 1998 Organic Valley represents more than 800 organic producers in 25 states.

Organic Valley Cooperative held a small ceremony to welcome its newest organic dairy producer into the family. Last week Marlin Sauder, Sharon Grove, Ky., became the first Kentucky dairy producer to receive organic certification, and the 600^th member of the Organic Valley dairy family.

Because the supply of organic milk has not kept pace with current demand, Sauder had his pick of places to sell his organic milk. He turned down five other offers to buy his milk.

Organic Valley was organized in 1988. The cooperative represents more than 800 producers in 25 states and had sales of $245 million in 2005.
