For Arlene Houweling, winning a $2,500 American Express gift card couldn’t have come at a better time.
In October, Houweling was in an automobile accident and suffered an injury to her left hand. She had to have surgery on the hand, and that precluded her from working at her job (off the farm) the past few months.
The gift card will help cover some bills that need to be paid while she is recuperating. She hopes that she can return to her job soon.
She was among approximately 10,000 readers of Dairy Herd Management and its sister publications who entered the Cash for Christmas promotion.
Arlene Houweling and her husband, Case, run a 100-cow dairy near Nampa, Idaho. In addition, the Houwelings farm about 130 acres.
When Case Houweling saw something about the Cash for Christmas program, his first thought was to have his daughter enter. But Arlene Houweling said she would do it and get it done.
She is glad she did.
“It was unbelievable,” she said upon being named the winner, adding it was “perfect timing.”
The Cash for Christmas program was intended to engage e-mail subscribers and Web site followers “to tell us more about themselves so we can better understand who they are and the tools that will help their businesses,” said Mark Siebert, group publisher of Dairy Herd Management and its sister publications.
