Turning a waste stream into an energy stream, that’s what the city of Tulare, Calif., plans to do by investing in a Direct Fuel Cell power plant.

The city chose to use fuel-cell technology because it generates electricity without combustion. The power plant will use waste from milk-processing to generate electricity to power a municipal wastewater plant that serves the San JoaquinValley.
