The "reduced production" phase of the Cooperatives Working Together program begins today.
CWT officials will announce at a news briefing tomorrow how many producers — out of 514 bids received — will be accepted into the "reduced production" program. Producers will contract for a year to reduce their farms' milk output.
Estimates are that the "reduced production" phase of the CWT program will remove 89 million pounds of milk from the market over the next year. Added to the 580 million pounds that will be removed under the "herd retirement" program, the total amount of milk removed from the market is 669 million pounds.
