Arizona consumers can now buy organic milk from a local source — Shamrock Farms.

As of last week, organic milk from Shamrock Farms, Maricopa, Ariz., started hitting store shelves in the state. The cost for a half gallon of Shamrock’s organic milk is about $3.20 compared to $4 per half gallon for organic milk trucked in from other states.

In the U.S. organic foods have grown at a pace of about 20 percent per year. And according to The Arizona Republic, the growth rate for organic products in Arizona has been closer to 40 percent. Those factors are what, in part, led Shamrock Farms to build an organic dairy next door to its traditional dairy facility.
