In Chester County, S.C., dairy producer Ronnie Stephenson has been losing “a cow or two a day” since the intense heat settled over the region at the beginning of the month.

Temperatures in the region normally average in the upper 80s during the month of August with evening lows just below 70. This year however, triple-digit daytime highs, with evening temperatures still in the 90s are taking a toll, Stephenson told WSOC-TV.

Despite cooling systems in place for his 700-cow herd, Stephenson has lost nine cows in the last 10 days.
