Eight universities in the Southwest have collaborated to provide leadership, support and resources for teaching and research in large herd management.
Their effort, the Southern Great Plains Dairy Consortium (SGPDC), will coordinate with industry and government to enhance the dairy industry’s competitiveness, as well as its ability to produce a safe, wholesome and competitively priced supply of milk and dairy products.
The first activity of the consortium will be to establish a regional, multi-university program which provides a framework for coordinating dairy training in a large herd setting.
The Advanced Large Herd Management Program begins summer 2008 and will give 25 to 30 students a unique educational experience and employment opportunities.
Students interested in the program should request an application from the Animal Science Department at their participating university or at: http://sgpdct.tamu.edu. Select “
