According to a study by the National Institute of Health one out of every three people surveyed say they have a food allergy. However, scientists estimate the real rate of food allergies is somewhere between one in 25 and one in 70.

Another survey, conducted last month in California shows that many parents are self-diagnosing food allergies without consulting a doctor. The result is that 63 percent of parents surveyed said they had eliminated or reduced their kids’ intake of milk at the first sign of a problem. In addition, 40 percent of parents surveyed said they do not consult a doctor before eliminating foods from their kids’ diets.
