MARYVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The University of Tennessee expects a $12 million dairy research facility to be finished by the end of the year.
The Maryville Daily Times reports that plans call for the Blount County project to start dairy operations at its Little River Unit in Walland in December.
University assistant dean of Tennessee Ag Research Office said Stephen Oliver says the project will help dairy farmers across Tennessee.
The dairy is expected to accommodate up to 200 milking cows at maximum capacity. Much of the rich bottomland at the farm will be planted in feed crops. The facility will employ about 12 to 15 workers.
