USDA, Justice Department to ensure ag competition

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack told Iowa audiences yesterday that USDA and the Justice Department will “take appropriate action” to ensure competition in ag markets and technology, according to the Des Moines Register.

He added that the Agriculture and Justice departments will hold a series of public hearings early next year on complaints by farmers and business interests that agribusiness interests have gained too much control. Crop input companies and dairy processors are some of the organizations under increased scrutiny.
