USDA officials confirm Quincy cow is from Canadian herd

USDA officials have confirmed that one animal at a dairy in Quincy, Wash., is indeed a herd mate to the Canadian-born cow that tested positive for Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE). More research is needed to confirm if other herd mates reside at the dairy, but officials suspect there may be a total of seven cows from the original 81 that crossed the border.

The state of Washington has placed a hold on the 1,000-cow dairy so that no animals may leave the premises while USDA is conducting its investigation.
