Vermont producers buy processing plant

A group of Vermont dairy producers have decided to take control of their destiny. As of last week, they now own a processing plant in Hardwick, Vt.

According to the Web site for Vermont Milk Company, “The Vermont Milk Company is farmer owned, operated and inspired. As a result, we:

  1. Process 100% rBST-free Vermont milk, right here in Vermont, in our very own plant.
  2. Pay Vermont farmers a consistently fair price for their best milk—day in, day out.
  3. Put our farmers first, knowing that if we do that, everyone wins, including the farmers, the cows, our partners and the consumer.”

According to an article in the St. Albans Messengers the company plans to pay Vermont producers a minimum $15 per hundredweight for milk. To read the full article, go to:
