In 1965, Colby, Wis., hosted its first annual Colby Cheese days as a way to promote the local dairy industry and Colby cheese.

Over the years it has grown into a huge weekend celebration, including the World Championship Cheese Curd Throw.

According to WSAW news, the World Championship Cheese Curd Throwing Contest was started eight years ago when four churches in Colby were trying to raise money for repairs and decided to use the contest as a fundraiser. For $2.00 a throw can be purchased with all proceeds going to the churches.

The longest throw ever recorded is more than 200 feet.

More information on the contest can be found here.
