Wisconsin Governor Doyle is expected to sign recently passed legislation that creates a dairy investment tax credit for producers that modernize and upgrade their facilities.

The measure allows a 10 percent income and franchise tax credit — up to $50,000 — for expenses from a dairy modernization project. The legislation is part of the state’s Agricultural Renewal Initiative, and backers of the plan estimate that if just 10 percent of the state’s dairy producers modernize their operations, it would generate an additional $500 million in annual gross farm receipts for the state.
