The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection has developed a new guide to help beginning dairy producers buy dairy cows.
The brochure offers some general guidelines, like request the right to reject any animal for questionable health status, blank quarters, lameness, bad attitude or other reasons.
It also recommends that purchasers review bulk tank culture records for at least six months prior to animal purchase. And the guide offers recommendations regarding Johne’s Disease.
