A former employee of Dairylea Cooperative in New York has been sentenced to more than three years in prison for mail fraud.
Authorities say that Cheryl Nelli, of Syracuse, N.Y., redirected nearly $600,000 into her own bank accounts from the cooperative.
“Authorities said Nelli made up fake payments requested by farmers, and greatly inflated the milk payments to the farmers from Dairylea from 2002 until about May 1, 2009. Dairylea would end up sending checks directly into one of Nelli’s at least eight different bank and credit card accounts,” according to an article in the Rome (N.Y.) Sentinel.
Nelli was ordered to make restitution on the entire $595,260 she stole, the article said.
