Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 01/23/2013
 
   Receipts:  1670    Last Week:  1267    Year Ago:  1960
 
   Compared to last week:  Steers under 550 lbs and heifers under 
400 lbs steady; heavier weights 3.00-5.00 lower.  Demand moderate 
to good with most interest on thin, weaned calves.  Drought 
concerns and recent declines in feeder and fed cattle markets 
limiting demand.  Heifers made up 47 percent of receipts and cattle 
over 600 lbs comprised 26 percent of supply.
   Slaughter cows steady.  Slaughter bulls steady in very thin test.
Packer demand moderate to good.  Large percentage of thin, light cows 
offered and the majority went back to the country. Total of 364 cows 
and bulls sold with 44 percent going to packers.
