Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, TX - 01/28/2013

Cattle and Calves: 892      Two Weeks Ago:  537     Year Ago:  638 

   Compared to last reported sale two weeks ago:  There were not enough 
comparable sales of feeder steers or heifers for an adequate market trend 
however a higher undertone was noted.  Trade activity was fairly active on good 
demand for the loads of yearling heifers available in the offering.  Cattle 
futures closed gaining some lost ground which boosted optimism in the markets.  
Slaughter cows were steady to firm with slaughter bulls not well tested.  
Slaughter cows and bulls made up 3 percent, 1 percent replacements and 96 
percent feeders.  Feeder supply included 14 percent steers and bulls, 6 percent 
heifers.  Near 79 percent of the run weighed over 600 lbs.

   Steers:  Medium and Large 1  350-400 lbs 210.00-214.00; few 500 lbs 172.50; 
few 587 lbs 164.00; lot 771 lbs 144.00.
   Holsteins:  Large 3 few 501 lbs 86.00; few 731 lbs 80.00.
          
   Feeder Bulls:  Medium and Large 1 few 485 lbs 165.00; few 520 lbs 166.50; few 
570 lbs 154.50; lot 651 lbs 138.50.

   Heifers: Medium and Large 1  350-400 lbs 174.00-179.00; 400-450 lbs 167.00-
169.00; 450-500 lbs 156.00-163.00; few 523 lbs 154.00; 550-600 lbs 143.00-
148.00; load 634 lbs 140.50, few 600 lb calves 140.00; few 675 lbs fleshy 
128.50; several loads 783 lbs 140.25. 
   Medium and Large 1-2  700-750 lbs 134.25.
