Texas milk production up 8 percent

Texas milk production totaled 787 million pounds during November, up 8 percent from last year's production of 726 million pounds. October 2011 production totaled 813 million pounds.

The number of milk cows during November averaged 435,000 head, up 20,000 head from last year, but unchanged from the October 2011 number. Production per cow averaged 1,810 pounds during November, 60 pounds more than last year, but 60 pounds less than October 2011.
