Illinois Grain Prices in Country Elevators

This is Friday's report of the grain prices and trends prepared by the 
USDA and the Illinois Department of Agriculture.
  
Illinois country grain prices were mixed on Friday afternoon, with soybeans and 
wheat higher and corn slightly lower. Solid weekly export sales figures supported 
higher soybean and wheat values.

In Northern and Western Illinois country grain dealers quoted shelled corn bids 
were 3 cents lower at 7.09-7.28. Soybean bids were 2 to 3 cents higher at 
14.26-14.50.
 
In Central Illinois country grain dealers quoted shelled corn bids were 3 cents
lower at 7.18-7.32. Soybean bids were 6 to 9 cents higher at 14.46-14.60.

In the Southern part of the state, shelled corn bids were 3 to 4 cents lower
at 7.09-7.45. Soybean bids were 6 to 10 cents higher at 14.61-14.83. Wheat bids 
were 6 to 7 cents higher at 7.69-7.85.

Illinois grains ended mixed for the week, with soybeans higher, corn nearly steady and wheat 
lower. The export market and export interest helped soybean futures to move higher this week.  
Export inspection figures of 48 million and several announcements this week of export sales to 
China and unknown destinations supported prices.  Cash soybean basis levels remain strong 
at both soybean processors and grain export terminals.  Traders have also been keeping an 
eye on the weather conditions for the South American soybean crop. Conditions have been dry 
in many cases, with the market reacting to every chance of rain.

The trading in the cash grain market was slow to moderate. Last week's increase prices left 
many producers looking for better prices to make additional cash sales of both corn and 
soybeans. Basis levels remain firm at all grain terminals and processors.  Although I usually 
don't make note of new crop bids and basis in this report, they did get my attention this week.  
New crop corn and soybean basis made a noticeable improvement this week at the river 
terminals.  New crop corn basis was steady to as much as 4 cent stronger, while the new crop 
soybean basis was mostly 8 to 11 cents higher for the week. New crop corn basis along the 
Illinois River ended the week ranging from -28Z to -22Z, with the new crop soybean basis 
ranging from -20X to option X, but -10X to option in many cases. The Central Illinois Soybean 
Processors cash bids were steady to 3 cents higher ranging from 14.65-14.75, with basis 2 to 
5 cents lower at +30H to +40H. The Central Illinois Corn Processors cash bids were 
unchanged ranging from 7.29-7.48, with basis steady ranging from +5H to +24H. At the Illinois 
River terminals south of Peoria, cash corn bids ended 1 to 2 cents lower ranging from 7.24-
7.26, with basis 1 to 2 cents lower at option H to +2H. Cash soybean bids gained 8 to 9 cents 
to 14.73-14.82, with basis up 3 to 4 cents ranging from +38H to +47H. New crop wheat bids for 
delivery in July 2013 ended 1 to 3 cents higher ranging from 7.57-7.71, with basis up 14 to 16 
cents at -25N to -11N. At the Illinois River terminals north of Peoria, cash corn bids were 
steady to 5 cents stronger to 7.21-7.29, with basis steady to 5 cents higher at -3H to +5H. 
Cash soybean bids were up 5 to 12 cents at 14.72-14.75, with basis steady to 6 cents higher 
ranging from +361/2 H to +40H. New crop wheat bids for July 2013 delivery fell 10 to 11 cents 
to range from 7.57-7.65, with basis up 2 to 3 cents at -25N to -17N. At the St. Louis terminals 
cash corn bids were steady to 2 cents higher at 7.24-7.29, with soybeans gaining 2 to 9 cents 
ranging from 14.89-14.92. Cash bids for Soft Red Winter wheat fell 11cents to 7.84-7.85 and 
cash sorghum bids were down 1cent to range from 7.08-7.09.  

In northern and western Illinois, cash corn bids to producers at country elevators gained 1 to 2 
cents at 7.12-7.31, with central Illinois locations mixed at 7.21-7.35 and in southern Illinois bids 
were steady to 3 cents higher ranging from 7.12-7.49. Cash soybean bids in northern and 
western locations were up 5 to 13 cents at 14.24-14.47 with central Illinois bids steady to 7 
cents higher at 14.40-14.51 and southern Illinois bids were 5 to 8 higher 14.55-14.73. Cash 
wheat bids for Soft Red Winter wheat in southern Illinois locations declined 7 to 11 cents to 
7.62-7.79. New crop wheat bids for June-July delivery in southern Illinois mostly 13 cents 
weaker to range from 7.40-7.64.
