Pacific Northwest Add Weekly Grain Summary
Cash Soft White Wheat - Pacific Northwest: Bids for US 1 Soft White Wheat,
delivered by unit trains and barges to Portland during May ended the reporting
week on Thursday, May 3, at 6.75-7.00, mostly 6.89, 10 to 30 cents per bushel
lower than week ago bids for the same delivery period. Last Thursday's bids for
soft white wheat for May delivery were 7.05-7.10. There were no white club wheat
premiums for nearby delivery for this week or last week. One year ago bids for
US 1 Soft White Wheat were 7.65-7.90, mostly 7.77 and white club wheat for May
delivery were 7.65-8.40, mostly 7.94. Nearby bids for US 1 Soft White wheat
began the reporting week on Friday at mostly 7.11 then followed the Chicago July
wheat futures higher on Monday to mostly 7.15 and held at that level through
Tuesday. The Chicago July wheat futures dropped on Wednesday and so did the soft
white wheat bids to mostly 7.04. Today (Thursday), bids moved lower to mostly
6.89. New confirmed export sales of white wheat this week were limited to
Taiwan. The results of the Commodity Credit Corporation of the USDA tender for
export distribution to Yemen will be available today at 2pm. Forward month bids
for soft white wheat were as follows: June 6.75-7.00; first half July 6.70-7.00;
last half July 6.55-6.70; August New Crop 6.50-6.80; and September 6.55-6.69.
One year ago, forward month bids for soft white wheat were June 7.75-7.90, July
7.65-7.90, August New Crop 7.70-7.90 and September 7.80-7.95.
Outstanding U.S. white wheat export sales as of April 26, 2012 for the
marketing year beginning June 1, 2011 and ending May 31, 2012, totaled 610.3
thousand MT compared to 833.8 thousand MT on April 19, 2012, and 988.0 thousand
MT one year ago. Outstanding white wheat export sales for the 2011-2012
marketing year were to the following countries in 1,000 MT: South Korea 202.1,
Japan 177.7, Indonesia 35.0, Ecuador 30.3, Nigeria 29.0, Thailand 26.5, Taiwan
15.3, Mexico 10.3, Canada 1.4, Hong Kong 1.1, Vietnam 0.4, and total unknown
81.2. Accumulated white wheat export shipments as of April 26, 2012, in 1,000 MT
for the 2011-2012 marketing year, totaled 5,151.3 compared to 4,246.2 one year
ago.
Outstanding U.S. barley export sales as of April 26, 2012 for the marketing
year beginning June 1, 2011 and ending May 31, 2012, in 1,000 MT, totaled 2.2
compared to 2.1 on April 19, 2012 and 4.4 one year ago. Outstanding barley
export sales for the 2011-2012 marketing year in 1,000 MT were to the following
countries in 1,000 MT: Japan 1.8, Taiwan 0.3, and South Korea 0.1. Accumulated
barley export shipments as of April 26, 2012 were 83.1 thousand MT compared to
96.4 one year ago.
Coarse feeding grains: Bids for US 2 Yellow Corn delivered to Portland in
single rail cars were 273.75-274.75, 5.00 to 6.75 per ton higher than last
Thursday's bids of 267.00-269.75. Bids for US 2 Yellow Corn truck delivered to
the inland feeding areas of Yakima, Washington, and Hermiston, Oregon were
260.50-275.50, 2.50 to 12.75 per ton higher than last Thursday's bids of 258.00-
262.75. Higher Chicago July corn futures for the week supported cash corn bids.
Bids for US 2 Heavy White Oats for May delivery were 250.00, steady with last
Thursday's noon bids.
