Pacific Northwest Add Weekly Grain Summary
Cash Soft White Wheat - Pacific Northwest: Bids for US 1 Soft White Wheat,
delivered by unit trains and barges to Portland during March ended the reporting
week on Thursday, March 21, at 8.47-8.5875, mostly 8.5350, 31.00 to 32.75 cents
per bushel lower compared to last Thursday's noon bids of 8.7975-8.8975, mostly
8.8475 for the same delivery period. There were no white club wheat premiums for
nearby delivery for this week or last week. One year ago bids for US 1 Soft
White Wheat and white club wheat for March delivery were 6.95-7.05, mostly 7.00.
Nearby bids for US 1 Soft White wheat began reporting week on Friday at the
weekly high of mostly 8.83, then moved lower to mostly 8.4425 on Monday
continuing to mostly 8.4575 on Tuesday and to mostly 8.52 on Wednesday. Today
(Thursday), bids ended the week at mostly 8.5350. New confirmed export sales of
white wheat this week were limited to Japan. Forward month bids for soft white
wheat were as follows: April 8.50-8.5875, May 8.42-8.5875, June 8.42-8.55 and
August New Crop 7.6775-7.7275. One year ago, forward month bids for soft white
wheat were as follows: April and May 7.00-7.05, June 6.80-7.00, July 6.60-6.85
and August New Crop 6.60-6.65.
Outstanding U.S. white wheat export sales as of March 14, 2013 for the
marketing year beginning June 1, 2012 and ending May 31, 2013, totaled 753.8
thousand MT compared to 782.0 thousand MT on March 7, 2012, and 1404.8 thousand
MT one year ago. Outstanding white wheat export sales for the 2012-2013
marketing year were to the following countries in 1000 MT: Japan 140.8, South
Korea 107.8, Philippines 103.0, Yemen 100.00, Egypt 55.0, Thailand 38.0, Nigeria
19.2, Taiwan 10.0, Burma 2.0, Canada 1.5, Malaysia 1.0, Vietnam 1.0 and total
unknown 174.5. Accumulated white wheat export shipments as of March 14, 2013, in
1000 MT for the 2012-2013 marketing year, totaled 3725.2 compared to 4275.0 one
year ago.
Outstanding U.S. barley export sales as of March 14, 2013 for the marketing
year beginning June 1, 2012 and ending May 31, 2013, in 1000 MT, totaled 2.2
compared to 2.2 on March 7, 2012 and 2.1 one year ago. Outstanding barley export
sales for the 2012-2013 marketing year in 1000 MT were to the following countries
in 1000 MT: Taiwan 1.1, Japan 0.8 and South Korea 0.3. Accumulated barley
export shipments as of March 14, 2013 were 130.8 thousand MT compared to 82.8 one
year ago.
Coarse feeding grains: Bids for US 2 Yellow Corn delivered to Portland in
single rail cars were 308.25-308.50, 5.50 to 6.00 per ton higher than last
Thursday's bids of 302.25-303.00. Bids for US 2 Yellow Corn truck delivered to
the inland feeding areas of Yakima, Washington, and Hermiston, Oregon were
308.25-312.25, 6.00 per ton higher than last Thursday's bids of 302.25-306.25.
Higher Chicago May corn futures were supportive to the cash corn bids. Bids for
US 2 Heavy White Oats for March delivery held steady with last Thursday's noon
bids at 270.00.
